The new TURBOIL-R-P14, for transcritical CO2, aims to track fine oil particles in CO2.
French firm Carly, founded in 1923, will launch a new CO2 transcritical oil separator at Chillventa (Hall 5 / 336 ) – the world’s biggest HVAC&R show, taking place in the German city of Nuremberg from 16-18 October 2018.
“Thus, 20 years after the creation of the patented TURBOIL, Carly is launching the TURBOIL-R-P14 for transcritical CO2 installations to track the fine particles of oils in CO2,” Cyrille Berthet, CEO and president of Carly, told R744.com.
Tracking the particles of oils in CO2 required a lot of R&D from the French manufacturer.
When analysing transcritical CO2 systems, Carly found that, “the level of fine oil particles in the refrigerant mass flow tends to be systematically higher in high pressure systems [and] its level varies with the refrigeration equipment load factor,” Berthet explains.
This means that in transcritical CO2 systems, the compressor oil and refrigerant can mix, leading to reduced performance, according to the company’s press release. The Carly team redesigned the oil separators to track the fine oil particles and cope with the problem.
The re-design allowed Carly to increase the efficiency of the TURBOIL-R-P14 over a wide range of different load rates, preventing the fine oil particles from mixing with the CO2 refrigerant and requiring less maintenance.
The TURBOIL-R-P14 comes in two ranges – one aimed at small stores with cooling capacities of up to 10 kW, and another for big supermarkets and Industrial refrigeration installations at capacities of up to 289 kW.
The oil separator also features vertical and horizontal mounting for certain models, and an anti-back wash system.
Carly will also show off other natural refrigerant products at Chillventa, including its 64/140 bar sealed type filter-drier, 64 bar filters, 90 bar Y filters, 64/140 bar discharge mufflers, 60/140 bar replaceable core filter (driers), 90 bar check valves, 64/140 bar oil filters and special oil for CO2 acidity tests.
